For the last few days of our holiday vacation, we chose to ease ourselves back into the city life by spending them in Leavenworth.
For our stay, we chose to splurge a little and went for The Bavarian Lodge. Yes, all lodges in Leavenworth can be considered “Bavarian”… Warm and inviting, while accented with rustic design. It was a great room to ease back into life and reality. Our greatest find was the shower though… after 5 days of backcountry camping, we were a little stinky.
Our first task was to find food, and more importantly, adult libations. Amie remembered a German restaurant she had been to in the past with “the ex”. (Don’t worry, we jokingly discuss our lame previous relationships.) Anyway, we decided to ask a local retailer and he mentioned it could possibly be Andreas Keller. Sure enough, it was! And boy was it just what we needed. Amazing food echoing the Germanic ways and more importantly… BEER! After consuming our weight in brats, we ventured back to our room to rest up for a minute.
Later that night, we still felt pretty full, but decided to walk around and enjoy the festive lighting and take in a little more of the holiday spirit.
The next day we woke up and decided to take advantage of the buffet the lodge before heading out to do a little shopping and take in the sites of Wenatchee river and mountainous views. We started with a little hike around the riverside and enjoying the scenic views that Leavenworth offers. After a couple hours of daydreaming, we headed back into town and found a great little shop where we invested in a wall clock for our kitchen and a little wooden Santa dressed for hiking the countryside. By this time, the local beer garden was opening, so we had to devour a pretzel and a couple pints of Oktoberfest beer. It was a good little breather, and Pleepleus was tempted to drink a little too.
Once we felt we had enough, we chose to take advantage of the lodge’s hot tub since all of the children seemed to be enjoying the infamous Leavenworth sledding hill and we could have a relaxing moment to massage our muscles. Later, heading back to our room to rest up a bit before heading out for our final meal in town. We enjoyed another great German dish and took a final stroll around the town.
The last day, we packed up, ate one final buffet breakfast, and headed back to Seattle to enjoy New Years Eve at home.To see more from our trip to Leavenworth, check out my Flickr set.
